Marc Goodheart is Vice President and Secretary of the University at Harvard University. He serves as chief administrative officer of Harvard's two governing boards, the President and Fellows (also known as the Harvard Corporation) and the Board of Overseers, and as a member of the President's senior staff. He assumed his responsibilities in the Office of the Governing Boards in September 1998, and has served since 1992 with Presidents Rudenstine, Summers, Bok, and Faust. He is a magna cum laude graduate of both Harvard College (1981), where he was president of The Harvard Independent, and Harvard Law School (1985), where he was executive editor of the Harvard Law Review. After clerking for Judge Stephen Breyer of the U.S. Court of Appeals, he practiced law in Harvard's Office of the General Counsel and then at the Boston law firm of Hill & Barlow. He and his wife, Lisa, live in Brookline and have two daughters.
